In our (humble) opinion this beer is by some stretch Australia's leading Kolsch and accordingly KRB's most important beer. Pouts a big fluffy ahead although not as much fizz in the palate as you might expect. Lager-like notes with the text book calling card of sweet minerals and chalk. Good presence in the palate.
"While it didn't take long for King River Brewing to find local admirers of beers such as his IPA and Altbier, it pays to have an entry-level beer when you're operating a brewpub, particularly when you're located in the country. That's the role played by this Kolsch, a role that's earned it the subtitle "The Elbow Bender" given that's what it'll have session drinkers doing. It's a simple beer: some light honey malt sweetness and the sort of dry finish that will offer more mainstream drinkers some familiarity. Add in a decent bitterness and light notes of spiced hops and you have a beer that's able to transport you to Cologne and unsurprisingly is one of King River's most frequently brewed." Crafty Pint
"A perfect beer for any occasion. A German Golden Ale with a light body and straw colour. Delicate hop character matches the elegant pale malts for a balanced ale that can quench a thirst and matches well with lighter foods. Our King Valley Kolsch showcases the beauty of our region with crisp characters from our super fresh water obvious with your very first taste. We call this beer the Elbow Bender as it's so easy to come back for another sip." Brewery Notes

Beer Backgrounder - Kolsch
Kölsch is a unique hybrid beer style originating from Cologne (Köln), Germany. It is technically a pale ale because it uses top-fermenting yeast, but it is conditioned at cold temperatures like a lager, resulting in a brew that is crisp, clear, and highly drinkable. A delicate balance of soft pilsner malt sweetness and a dry, crisp finish. It often features subtle fruity notes of apple, pear, or cherry.
