A (very) low profile Margaret River producer who I happen to consider the region's most under-rated. The 6 hectare vineyard is just shy of 25yrs old but super low yields and an unusually intense on the Left Bank classics - Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The reds in particular are serious wines - firm and stern structures with dry long-tailed fruits and BDX like tannin and spice. Goes without saying they need time.
"A vintage marked by a cool, extended ripening window. Damson plum, loganberry, musk and a smattering of garden herb and red cherry. Attractively sour and pithy, floral, too, with a sappy astringency, nicely positioned oak and a latent intensity that grows with air. I like this, by virtue of the structural attributes and savouriness alone. Bury and forget it for at least a decade. The track record is good at this address." 93pts | Ned Goodwin | Halliday Wine Companion
